Horses

This genius hour blog is about horses.

Horses are mammals. Most horses live for 25-30 years. Horses eat mainly grass or hay. A few facts about horses are that they sleep while standing up, they have really fast reflexes and they can’t breathe through their mouths.

Horse riding is a sport but not all horses do it. A horse you ride is called a “saddle horse”. A horse can weigh up to 1,200 pounds.

To look after horses in a stable you feed them hay or grain morning and night. You need to clean and refill buckets of water morning and night , you muck out stables every morning and you refresh their bedding and check and pick out hooves daily.

If you are riding your horse on the road you need to keep your horse to the left, keep your two hands on the reins unless you’re signalling and keep your two feet in the stirrups.

That’s my blog over for today , hope you enjoyed it !

Cows

Hi !!

The next animal I am doing for my genius hour is a cow!

Cows are big animals and they eat grass in the summer and silage in the winter.

Cows have to be tested once a year by a vet. Cows genuinely calf once a year. Cows provide us with most of the milk we drink and they provide us with most of our dairy products e.g. yogurt, cheese, butter and ice cream.

Types of cows are Holstein Friesian cattle, Aberdeen Angus, Hereford cattle and Galloway cattle.

Female adult cows are called cows and males are called bulls. Cows are used to make leather. A few facts about cows are cows have a good sense of smell and cows don’t need much sleep

Thank you for reading and I hope you know a bit more about cows now!!

Sheep

Hello!!

The first animal I am doing is sheep. There are a lot of different type of sheep like Suffolks sheep, Texels, Bluefaced Leicester, Lanarks and Swaledale sheep.

If you have to take a lamb of a ewe it’s usually because they had triplets or a ewe is has mastitis which mean they have no milk. If you do get pet lambs you feed them milk replacer.

You dip sheep in the summer to prevent scabs in sheep. After a while you take the lambs off the ewes. When ewe lambs are one year old they are hoggets.

Marts around Ireland are Carndonagh Mart Co Donegal , Raphoe Mart Co Donegal and Ardee Mart Co Louth.

Sheep can get feet problems like codd, foot-rot and scald. In winter you dose ewes every 6-8 weeks for fluke.

Clodaghs blog

Hi my name is Clodagh. I go to Cloontagh National school. We have four class teachers and 1 learning support. We got a new obstacle course on the garden. We have two p.e teachers John and Danny. We have four flower beds. There are ninety nine pupils in the school. We start school at nine and end at ten to three.

Sixth and fifth class get buddies with the junior and senior infants.A buddy is an infant you have to do activities and all with .

In our school we do bingo every Friday. Each class goes on zoom and then the Principal calls out the numbers. Sixth and fifth class split and a few go down to the infants room and some infants come up to sixth and fiifh class.

Beaches near us are Tullagh ,Binion, Leenan and Ballyliffen beach. A good place to go in the summer is a waterfall, there is a little path to walk on to get there and lunch benches. Bulaba is the closest mountain to us. The closest shop is Centra, it has most stuff.

Ever year we usually have a Clonmany festival though it hasn’t been on for two or three years because of covid. There are rides and concerts.

The sports we do are soccer and gaa .The closest soccer pitch is Clonmany Shamrocks and the gaelic pitch is Urris. Some people go to rasheney pitch for soccer.

For my genius hour I am going to do a blog about sheep i already know somethings but I am going to try and learn all of their sicknesses and stuff I don’t know
